World Oceans Day
Research has shown that 80% of litter found in oceans, originates inland. Due to human behaviour of littering and lack of waste management, waste finds its way into rivers which eventually lead to our oceans.
The plastics industry and partners are taking action by identifying river catchment areas in the various provinces and assisting with solutions to the problem of litter in our waterways.
National Marine Week
National Marine Week is celebrated every year during the second week of October. Its purpose is to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of these resources, for the benefit of all both present and future generations.
As custodian of the marine resources in South Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism is the lead driver for National Marine Week.
Cleanup and Recycle Week 2025
Each year, the local plastics industry encourages citizens to make a difference where they live, work, learn or play by participating in Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week – an annual public awareness week during which plastics and other litter are removed from our country’s neighbourhoods, rivers, streams, beaches and oceans.
